We offer classes for every fitness and experience level, and each class is capped at 15 people so everyone can get the individual attention they need. All classes are first-come, first-served, so please register online, or show up 10 minutes early. Private Group Training Available.



The MKG Method:
MKG's Signature Method

Tuesday, Thursday
6:00pm - 7:30pm

11am - 12:30pm

Started in 1982, this is what put MKG International on the radar of everyone in the martial art world. This training method has gone by many names: Applied Jeet Kune Do, JKD-Kali, Rick Faye's Method, and most recently The MKG Phase Program. But no matter what you call it, the result is the same: a fully-integrated approach to martial art training (predating modern MMA by nearly 20 years) that is super high-energy, tons of fun, and full of world-class mixed martial art skill development. MKG Kickboxing, Muay Thai Kickboxing, Jeet Kune Do Kickboxing and In-Fighting, Filipino Boxing, and Filipino Kali are all creatively cross-trained, with a heavy emphasis on developing solid cardio conditioning, proper body mechanics, and basic self defense tools. Level testing and certifications are available to help you set and meet goals, while progressing through all six phases of the MKG Method. This class is perfect for all experience and interest levels.

Jun Fan Martial Arts:
Bruce Lee's Chinese Boxing

Widely considered the grandfather of modern Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), Bruce Lee is well-known in the martial art world as the creator of the fighting science and philosophy known as Jeet Kune Do (JKD). A process rather than a style, Lee never fully intended on JKD being taught publicly as a "system." Conversely, what WAS taught publicly at Lee's eventual three schools was his own signature martial art known as Jun Fan Gung Fu, or simply "Chinese Boxing." This class combines elements of Boxing, French Savate Kickboxing, Chinese Wing Chun (and a variety of other Chinese martial arts), and mixed grappling. 

Filipino Dirty Boxing:
Panantukan, Silat, & Boxing

7:30pm - 9:00pm

Filipino Dirty Boxing goes by many names in the martial art world: Panantukan, Suntukan, Pangamut, Mano Mano, and many more. Commonly trained as a subset of the Filipino weapon arts, Dirty Boxing is as fascinating, fun, and functional as an empty-hand martial art can get. For this reason, MKG Dirty Boxing is taught weekly as a stand-alone class, ensuring you get as much training time with this art as possible. You will develop the ability to deploy creative striking, joint manipulations, limb destructions, and off-balancing techniques for self defense, with the occasional cross-over into potential competitive fight application. Always a group favorite, MKG Dirty Boxing is one of the most unique martial art training experiences in the Detroit area.


Filipino Weaponry Arts -

12:30pm - 2:00pm

This class safely utilizes weaponry (sticks, short and long blades, impact weapons) and mobility training to improve your reflexes, cognitive function, and ability to defend yourself and your loved ones. Exciting drills and patterns creatively teach you the various speeds, distances, and tools of simulated combat, while dramatically improving your familiarization with targets and weapons of opportunity. Taught to everyone from elite military units to Hollywood actors, and from world-class competitors to the average martial arts enthusiast, Filipino Kali is one of the most effective and fascinating martial arts you will find. Level testing and certification is available, recognized worldwide.    

MKG Muay Thai - 
Thai Kickboxing

6:00pm - 7:30pm

Learn the martial art of Muay Thai!  Also called "Thai Boxing," Muay Thai is the national sport of Thailand, and arguably the most popular style of real kickboxing in the world today. These fun, high-energy classes combine kicks, punches, knees, and elbows on pads or in safe partner drills. Benefits include self defense training, a fantastic full-body workout, mental and physical discipline, and the shared experience of overcoming challenges with your teammates in class. While MKGD does not currently train competitive fighters, we do find that training with the same methods, mindset, and intentions as a fighter is a great way to keep your martial art grounded and your mind and body at peek levels of performance. To that end, fewer physical and mental practices can compare to Muay Thai.

Core Skills - 
Kickboxing & Martial Art Fundamentals

6:30pm - 7:30pm

There's a handful of basic techniques that every martial artist should know.  A trained student in this field should know how to throw a jab punch, a boxer's cross, a couple good kicks, and a handful of core self defense techniques. This class will give you them all. A standardized rotating curriculum will ensure you develop the fundamental skills and tools utilized in every art we teach, and that will serve you well in any other art you may one day choose to explore. Comfortable solo and partnered drills will safely teach you not just what martial art looks like, but how it feels, helping to ensure your successful on-ramp to more dynamic and exciting training evolutions in your future. This class is designed for all experience levels, but is particularly suited to those who are brand new to martial art, or are looking for a refresher.

MKG Detroit is proud to be the home of SSBD DETROIT, Michigan's only officially sanctioned training group in Master Maul Mornie's Bruneian Fighting Art, Silat Suffian Bela Diri (SSBD).  Regular workshops are held at MKG Detroit, taught by authorized SSBD Group Leader Dr. Eric Greenberg, covering a variety of combat concepts born of the real fighting traditions of the kingdom of Brunei. SSBD is famous for its powerfully destructive, efficient, and graceful flow of techniques, coupled with it's fascinating insights into Bruneian culture. See event page for scheduled events.
