21st Century Martial Art fans will recognize Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) as a competitive outlet for martial artistry that allows practitioners to truly test their skills, and the elements of their chosen styles. And while the mixing of martial arts is nothing new, it’s public popularity as a competitive sport is.
MKG DETROIT is proud to offer a recreational, beginner-accessible look at modern MMA training in an environment that is open-minded, welcoming, and fitness-centered.
This weekly block is made up of the following two 45 min classes:
“Grappling” is a generic term for any kind of fight contact that is not based on percussion or impact (striking). Wrestling, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Shooto, Judo, Muay Thai Clinch — all are examples of the diverse are of study known as “Grappling.”
In our weekly beginner grappling session, you will learn to fall and stand back up safely and with mobility, various methods of escape and control on the ground or standing, and some of the basic locks, submissions, and beginner-level takedowns popularized by an assortment of grappling arts.
This is a great class for those looking to add some basic skills to their complete martial art training practice, or to see what all the Grappling buzz is really about.
“Mixed Martial Arts” as a competitive endeavor can be boiled down to a central theme - the ability to fluidly integrate a kickboxing skill set with a wrestling one. This class will give you the opportunity to explore this practice.
Our Mixed Martial Art class is a blast, starting off with warm-ups from various martial arts from around the world, and then moving through an education process where strikes and grappling techniques trained throughout the evening’s previous lessons will be integrated into a whole. We love it, and we know you will, too.
